The Garden Continues
Lake Hāwea
A garden continues.
If this garden looks familiar to you it is, though only 3 1/2 years old already previously featured on the website (A Lake Hawea garden). We weren’t sure if we should replace the photos and just put up the beautiful professional shots but I thought I would try something different and add this as another article on the site. I feel both shoots capture a different moment in the garden and I like the idea that there may be more pages to come over time.
A bit more like diary entries I think it’s nice to see a project as non-finite. Because a garden has so many seasons that a truly great garden can full the pages of a book if we follow it through the years.
I’ve always loved that a garden can be a totally different colour scheme from one season to the next or even from one week. In fact to sustain the composition in one moment in time is virtually impossible.
So here we reintroduce Hawea, this time through the lens of photographer Kate Cooke. Kate has a special connection to our studio being the sister of James Walkinshaw who has been a senior partner in the practice and started and lead our Wellington studio. He is currently doing the good mahi with the Department of Conservation but it’s nice to have his sister capturing our work in such a special way.
Her pictures capture beautifully the relationship with landscape and her lens expands the scale of the garden to demonstrate the depth of its realm.
In the meantime the garden continues, new shelter belts, finishing projects, expanding into new pastures. I hope this is not the last post we will share with you.
