In the Trees

This garden incorporates lush sweeping curves of native and exotic woodland planting complementing and contrasting the architectural form of a new home in Wellington’s hill suburbs.
Designed to provide a sense of floating within the trees - one of the aspects of the original site that drew the clients to this place - the planting provides privacy and green outlooks from every room of the house.
Light and shade were carefully considered, with highlights and texture incorporated into the planting scheme to ensure the garden feels inviting and full of life.
A range of trees with various forms were used to help scale and embed the architecture within the surrounding landscape. The garden includes specimens for immediate structure and height, along with slower growing elements (such as nīkau) to provide interest for many years to come.
Moments of seasonality and colour are blended through a primarily lush-green palette, with special and unexpected moments, such as spring bulbs and woodland sage, providing interest at different times of the year.
