The Pacifica
— The Pacifica, Auckland City

The design of The Pacifica building laneway was driven by the idea of creating a miniature oasis that could visually represent and honor the main characteristics of the unique piece of territory that we live in, The Pacific.

The temporary nature of the space stablished the limits of the design and guided us to use simple yet visually strong elements. Stone, texture and lushness. We also needed to comply with some safety points required in a laneway, such as visibility, creating a barrier from vehicles, safe pedestrian circulation spaces and providing safe, comfortable waiting areas.

A range of Hinuera stone boulders organically placed along the limit of the space create a barrier while provide visibility. Pots of different sizes and textures lay throughout the space not only providing space for planting, but also creating a diverse composition to control movement and rhythm.

Large leafy tropical specimens are planted to provide privacy from laneway as well as to bring a sense of scale to balance the proportions of the space. Light furniture placed amongst the space provides areas to pause and wait.
